Cabela's is a proud sponsor of The Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show, and for good reason! Lumberjacks like to work and play hard. Whether it’s hiking mountain peaks, fishing for King Salmon in the icy waters of the Tongass Narrows or hunting for bear on Prince of Wales Island, they know what it takes to get the job done. Before you begin your Alaskan vacation, take a note from these experts, and Cabela’s — they won’t steer you wrong!

The Cabela's Fisherman

Joel Kapp is one of the most accomplished speed climbers in his field.  With explosive speed going up, and a breathtaking drop coming down, he leaves the competition in the dust.  But during his off time, Joel leaves the speed behind and likes to relax on the pristine waters of the Pacific.

“As soon as I get to Alaska I get my fishing license in order and head for the boat.  My Cabela’s Fish Eagle XML Spinning Pack Rod is a must when I’m looking for the big King Salmon and I always stock up on XPG Dry Sacks in case it rains.”

When you meet Joel at The Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show, make sure to ask him where the big ones are biting.

The Cabela's Explorer

Don’t let the pretty lady fool you! Jessica Schneider is one tough cookie, on and off the field. A collegiate lumberjill competitor and the 2007 Alaska Babe Of The Woods, Jessica competes head to head with even the toughest lumberjacks.

“When I get some down time, I love to get out in the woods and just relax. You will always discover something new when you hike in Alaska—and you just have to hope that new thing is friendly!”

Cabela’s GORE-TEX Thinsulate Diamond Peak Parka keeps Jessica nice and toasty on high peak adventures as well as her GORE-TEX Trail Lite Hikers. And to keep her energy up, Jessica snacks on Old Fashioned Beef and Buffalo Jerky. Easy to pack and good for you!

The Cabela's Photographer

Jake Justus is an all around lumberjack competitor and avid sportsman. Whether he is working in the woods, crewing on a yacht or kayaking the Alaskan coast, he loves to document his adventures for the folks back home.

“The first time I kayaked in Alaska it just took my breath away! A Killer Whale crested right beside me, eagles were flying everywhere, and the water was so clear I could see thousands of salmon right under me. I didn’t put my camera down for hours!”

Jake catches all the action on a Nikon L12 COOLPIX Digital Camera with a Cabela's Professional Series Tripod. And to scout the perfect picture he uses Cabela's Alaskan Guide Binoculars.

The Cabela's Hunter

In the dictionary next to “Lumberjack” you will see a picture of Rob Scheer. With a multitude of World Championship titles under his belt and too many accolades to list, over the past 30 years he has defined this sport and made it what it is today.

During his play time, Rob is an avid hunter and never leaves home without a full stock of Cabela gear to make his trip a success.

“I always outfit myself and my son in Cabela's 1000 gram plus boots, because we never know what sort of conditions we’ll find ourselves in. I also pick up the newest Dimension Fleece Coat and some CoverBuster Canvas Jeans to make sure we keep the wind out.”

From archery gear to rifle ammo, Cabela's outfits the Scheer family in fine style and comfort. And even the family pet stays warm and safe with a 5mm Neoprene Vest with Armor Flex Chest.

“For my family, there simply isn’t any other outfitter—Cabela’s has it all.”

The Cabela's Camper

Curt Karboski is one of the biggest lumberjacks in the sport today—literally! Standing 6’ 5”, he towers over the competition. With a mighty swing and gritty determination, Curt has made a name for himself quickly in the pro ranks.

“I couldn’t wait to come to Alaska and see what all the fuss was about. I have always loved camping, but nothing has even come close to pitching a tent on the side of a glacier!”

Curt is well equipped for his wilderness adventure with the Alaskan Guide Model Tent, perfect for chilly nights. Snowpeak Titanium Cookware and Stoves are a must for this big man, with an even bigger appetite and the Alaskan Guide Model Sleeping Bag keeps him warm under the Northern Lights.
